“The Little Fidel in All of Us” in the New York Times

“Who would I be if Fidel’s revolution hadn’t happened and my parents hadn’t left? Who would those who remained on the island be if those of us who left had stayed by their side? Who would any of us be if Fidel hadn’t caused this rupture in our lives?”

Achy Obejas on the death of Fidel Castro, here and in print in the New York Times.

  1. I didn’t want another day to pass without letting you know how deeply your words moved me. This year, on October 25 (as I do every year) I remembered leaving my parents behind fifty five years ago, not knowing if I would see them again. Everything you wrote is what I’ve carried inside for those fifty five years but was never able to put into words.

    Thank you,
